DescriptionVINČA Institute of Nuclear Sciences is the largest Serbian scientific multidisciplinary institute. The research topics cover almost all natural and technical sciences: chemistry, biology/biomedicine, physics, advanced materials, nanoscience, environmental and radiation protection, power engineering and technology. Intitute`s internal organization enables to get a multi-faceted insight into a problem and seek solutions through joint work and is capable of responding to the major strategic research fields defined at national and EU levels. The total number of employees currently fluctuates around 750, out of which over 250 hold a PhD degree. Department of Physical Chemistry is among the oldest departments established in VINČA Institute, which is now multidisciplinary and innovation oriented. It consists of several sectors, such as Lasers physics , chemistry and optical spectroscopy, Molecular enzymology and toxicology, Renewable energy sources and environmental protection, Radiobiology and genotoxicology, Small molecule mass spectrometry and omics, and Biophysical chemistry of macromolecules. The Department has established colalborations and it is involved in various COST actions, FP7 and H2020 projects, as well as in TEMPUS (KA1). Since 1 April 2015 Department of Physical Chemistry has been certified by SGS, Zurich, Swittzerland for its quality system management according to the SRPS ISO 9001:2008 standard, certificate no. CH15/0419. The certificate was obtained for research and development in the field of physical chemistry and services in investigations and consulting in applied physical chemistry. The Department has also established and maintains the management system in compliance with the requirements of the SRPS ISO/IEC 17025:2006 standard in the field of analytical chemistry examinations of building materials, waste, air, packaging and metal materials, and biological (biochemical) examination of human skin, blood, and fibroblasts.
